Mr Abbas Ismail, Course Chair
Abbas Ismail serves as the Course Chair for the Diploma in Aviation Management and Programme Head for the Diploma in Engineering (Aviation Management) at Temasek Polytechnic's School of Engineering. With a background in airport operations, he has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum and industry partnerships for this pioneering aviation programme - the first of its kind in Asia. His leadership has contributed to the development of a multidisciplinary course that combines operations and business principles, preparing students for careers in airport management, air traffic control, and airline executive and ground handling officers. Under his guidance, the programme offers unique opportunities such as a 12-month flying programme leading to a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and internships with renowned aviation companies .
Beyond his academic role, Abbas has been actively involved in real-world aviation incidents. He was among the first responders from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to the SilkAir MI 185 crash in Palembang, Indonesia, and has provided support to families affected by the Singapore Airlines SQ006 crash in Taiwan. Abbas continues to be a key figure in the aviation education landscape, ensuring that Temasek Polytechnic's aviation programmes remain relevant and aligned with industry needs.
