Abbas Ismail serves as the Course Chair for the Diploma in Aviation Management and Programme Head for the Diploma in Engineering (Aviation Management) at Temasek Polytechnic's School of Engineering. With a background in airport operations, he has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum and industry partnerships for this pioneering aviation programme - the first of its kind in Asia. His leadership has contributed to the development of a multidisciplinary course that combines operations and business principles, preparing students for careers in airport management, air traffic control, and airline executive and ground handling officers. Under his guidance, the programme offers unique opportunities such as a 12-month flying programme leading to a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and internships with renowned aviation companies . 

 

Beyond his academic role, Abbas has been actively involved in real-world aviation incidents. He was among the first responders from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) to the SilkAir MI 185 crash in Palembang, Indonesia, and has provided support to families affected by the Singapore Airlines SQ006 crash in Taiwan. Abbas continues to be a key figure in the aviation education landscape, ensuring that Temasek Polytechnic's aviation programmes remain relevant and aligned with industry needs.

Prior to his career in education, Khai Leng practiced law for over 20 years, including nearly 18 years as a Partner at Mallal & Namazie, one of Singapore’s well-established law firms. Kin Woon graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree. Following his admission to the Singapore Bar, he began his legal career as a corporate lawyer, specialising in Corporate Finance.

 

He later transitioned to an in-house legal role with a listed local company, where he was actively involved in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, and various operational legal matters. Subsequently, he joined a European multinational corporation, where he undertook regional legal responsibilities and was eventually appointed General Counsel, ASEAN.

 

Currently, Kin Woon is with Temasek Polytechnic, where he teaches Corporate Law-related subjects, bringing with him a wealth of industry experience and practical insights.

Kelvin Tan is a lecturer in the Temasek Polytechnic School of Design. He holds a BA Honors in Interior Design from LaSalle and brings 12 years of experience managing his own practice, specialising in residential, office, and commercial design projects.


He is interested in combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, offering students valuable industry insights. Outside of academia, he is passionate about outdoor sports, infusing vitality into both his professional and personal life.

 

 

Mr Dominic Poon, Programme Coordinator.

 

Dominic is an industrial designer, retail designer and lecturer for Temasek Polytechnic's Interior Architecture & Design and Common Foundation courses. His work spans the prestige perfume and cosmetics sector where he has led the conceptual design to execution of flagship store concepts for Estée Lauder, Tom Ford, Shiseido, and NARS, with projects spanning global markets as well as the APAC region for both domestic and travel retail.

 

He has also led concept design to execution of exhibitions for Shiseido group of companies in Tax Free World Association events held in Singapore and Cannes, France. 


Dominic's industrial design work has been exhibited locally and in Paris as part of Maison et Objet, and in 2010 was awarded the President's Design Award Design of the Year for his contribution to d.lab's Objects Around the Tablescape collection.

Principal Lecturer

 

Matthew Tan is a Principal Lecturer at BCA Academy, with specialisation in architecture and sustainable building design. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Science in Sustainable Building Design from the University of Nottingham. Prior to his academic role, Matthew worked as a project architect, gaining experience across a diverse range of building typologies—including security, mixed-use developments, religious institutions, educational facilities, and healthcare projects—both in Singapore and overseas.

 

At BCA Academy, Matthew oversees the development and delivery of academic programmes that emphasise sustainability, digitalisation, and innovation to address the evolving needs of the Built Environment sector. His areas of focus include curriculum design, academic leadership, and the alignment of training with industry demands.

 

He is a Green Mark Advanced Accredited Professional, a LEED Accredited Professional, and a certified Green Mark Assessor, contributing actively to national efforts in green building and sustainability through education and capability development.

Ms Ho Sock Yee, Programme Coordinator.

 

Sock Yee is a Registered Professional Architect (Board of Architects, Singapore) and an Accredited ID1 Interior Designer, with over two decades of experience spanning architectural practice, interior design, and education. Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer and Course Chair at Temasek Polytechnic, she leads multiple specialist diploma programmes, including Interior Design Practice, Lighting Design, and Sustainable Built Environment—playing a key role in shaping Singapore’s next generation of spatial design professionals.

 

Her professional credentials also include recognition as a Green Mark Manager (Trained) and Universal Design Assessor, reflecting her strong commitment to sustainable and inclusive design. Prior to entering academia full-time, she held senior roles at ATA Architects, JTC Corporation, and VivATA Pte Ltd, overseeing complex architectural projects across the public and private sectors.

 

At Temasek Polytechnic, she not only teaches in the Diploma in Interior Architecture and Design programme but has also spearheaded curriculum development and innovation for Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom—as Chair of the Design School’s Competition Committee (2019–2022), she championed design excellence and industry engagement among learners.

Izad commenced his career in special education in 2007 at AWWA School, where he supported students with moderate to severe autism and multiple disabilities. During his tenure, he served as Head of the ICT Department for five years, leading the development of a customized ICT curriculum and championing the integration of technology into daily classroom instruction in collaboration with teaching staff.

 

He subsequently broadened his professional experience by teaching at an international school in Shanghai. Izad holds a Bachelor of Education (Special Education) from Flinders University, South Australia, and a Master of Education (Special Education) from the National Institute of Education, Singapore.

 

Currently a lecturer at Temasek Polytechnic, Izad teaches modules in Psychology and Special Education. Known for his unique ability to bridge the worlds of visual design and music, Say Keong often draws inspiration from album artwork and soundscapes. A music lover at heart, he believes that music and design are deeply intertwined—a philosophy he shares with his students. As he often says, “Have music close to you, and design ideas will fall into place naturally.”

 

Outside of the classroom, Say Keong is also an avid collector of vinyl records, a passion that fuels his creative perspective and adds a nostalgic yet timeless dimension to his design storytelling.

Her research interests focus on social psychology, prosocial behaviour, and their applications. Chee Hui has been involved in various applied behavioural science projects over the years, with a particular interest in sustainability. She has also worked on projects addressing urban challenges such as managing nuisance caused by pest birds, and encouraging sustainable behaviours in the community.

She has been teaching Economics and Business Management subjects to both PET and CET students in Temasek Polytechnic for the past 23 years. Mr Eugene Cheah, Lecturer

 

Eugene graduated from the Australian National University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Master’s in International Law, as well as a Master’s in Sustainable Development from the University of Edinburgh in 2019.

 

Prior to joining Temasek Poly, Eugene was working in the civil service and various public sector agencies, and has close to eight years of experience in the field of International Relations. Sau Lin holds a Master of Science in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and has nearly 30 years of experience in education. She began her career as a Mechanical Engineering graduate, working in Leeport Pte Ltd and Delcam Singapore as a Senior Application Engineer, supporting CAD/CAM software solutions across Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, and China.

 

In 2000, she transitioned into education at Temasek Polytechnic, where she initially taught CAD/CAM technology and CNC programming, before expanding into 3D modeling, animation, virtual reality, and augmented reality. She played a key role in the launch of the Diploma in 3D Interactive Media Technology and has supervised numerous student projects in 3D and interactive media.

 

Currently, she serves as a Course Chair in Computer Engineering, focusing on curriculum development and aligning programmes with emerging technologies. As the former Subject Leader for Data Visualisation and Analytics, she introduced tools like RapidMiner, KNIME, and Tableau to engineering students.
